About us

Be the Mustard Tree

Be the Mustard Tree is a store committed to serving the needs of vulnerable children and families, whether they be at-risk, with extended family, in foster care, adopted, in an orphanage, or other circumstance.  We believe that children belong in families and that this is a high calling.  Therefore 100% of our profits go to 127 Place, a non-profit in SWVA.

When you purchase from Be the Mustard Tree, you can know that your items:
  • Support small and/or local business
  • Are fairly traded
  • Support vulnerable children and families
Some of our items are handmade in Haiti.  These items are particularly helpful as Haiti is recovering from a devastating earthquake.  The place where these unique items are made is a business and ministry that aims at empowering women so they can keep their children, instead of relinquishing them to the orphanage.  On-site is a daycare for families of little ones and all of the children of the employees go to school -- even the girls.

We hope you love these products.  Thank you for being part of making a difference through the way you shop.

Be the Mustard Tree is a reference to Luke 13:18-19.  Jesus is trying to describe the Kingdom of God, this place where the God's beauty and reign touches with the Earth where we live.  Jesus describes it as a tree that birds come to nest in.  We believe that as the Body of Christ, it's on us to reflect God's kingdom out into the world.  We should be like this tree, that is a welcoming and safe haven for the vulnerable.  We should be so welcoming and so protecting, that the vulnerable, like birds, come and grow their families in our boughs.  Go.  Be the Mustard Tree.
